Man Post: The “Undershirt” – Office Faux Pas?

A man friend told me he liked my blog but wanted tips for men.  This gave me the perfect excuse to unleash frustration on men wearing visible t-shirts under their expensive work shirts to the office.  Just last week, I gave one of my colleagues a verbal warning about this.  I told him next time, it will be a written warning.

Men, I know you think this is up for debate (see Mancouch.com and Undershirt Guy), but if you are an upwardly-mobile professional, go with a sleek v-neck instead.

And, if you absolutely must to do this, please do so outside the office. Thanks in advance.

This is so true! I have told this to my fiancee and he does not listen. How do you convince a man to change this habit?

Shame. Simple guilt and shame. That’s how you get a man to respond to fashion advice.

    hey jenny,

thanks for linking over to my site and for bringing up the topic.

to be totally candid, i agree that v-neck is more appropriate to wear to the office with an open collared button shirt.

crew necks are a must if wearing a tie, and going sans undershirt at the office, in my opinion, isn’t a good idea, especially if you’re wearing a light colored dress shirt.

see this article and image as an example of what not to do: http://wp.me/p1sx9z-1r4

i suppose if the guy is fit, wearing a thicker non-transparent dress shirt, and doesn’t sweat, he could skip the undershirt, but if you have a properly fitting and feeling undershirt, your shirts will drape so much nicer :)

    food for thought ladies…

    Thanks, Tug!

You actually gave the man a verbal warning with notice of a future written warning?! That guy should quit 10 minutes ago, not 5 seconds from now. How do you ever make it through a day surrounded by a society full of men who’s T-shirts are showing, either in life or movies and TV? Nothing wrong with you not liking it, but reprimanding someone? UNBELIEVABLE.
